The Age of Innocence
by Edith Wharton

Wednesday, February 4th, 12:00 noon
Thursday, February 5th, 6:30 PM
Dulaney Room
Set in New York City at the turn of the century, The Age of Innocence examines upper-class values and morals in all their conventionality and tradition, rigidity and hypocrisy, with Wharton’s subtle irony and wit. As Newland Archer is living the life of the just and doing all the right things to establish his respectability in society, his naïveté comes to the fore when his affections are torn between two women, his fiancée May Welland, the demure and proper daughter of old New York, and the mysterious and scandalous Countess Ellen Olenska, recently returned from Europe and a tormented marriage.
