Downloadable Audiobooks and eBooks at McKinney Public Library

Did you get an eReader, iPad, or other device for reading or listening to books for the holidays?  Downloadable audiobooks and eBooks are available through the Library’s OverDrive website as well as through searches in the library catalog.

There is no charge for the service.  In addition to your new device, you’ll need:
  • A McKinney Public Library System card
  • A computer with an Internet connection, or iPad, smart phone, or similar tablet device
  • Free software (OverDrive Media Console and/or Adobe Digital Editions)
  • For Kindle eReaders, an amazon.com account
Support materials can be found on the links to the right for audiobook, eBook, and Kindle eBook support.  The McKinney OverDrive site’s Frequently Asked Questions page has detailed background information and troubleshooting sections, and OverDrive’s Device Resource Center lists compatible portable devices.

In addition, library staff may be contacted at McKinneyRef@mckinneytexas.org.

If you don’t yet have a McKinney Public Library Card:

Library cards are available free of charge to all Collin County residents with picture identification (for example, driver’s license) with proof of residence. (If you are not current on your driver’s license, you may bring in a current utility bill, etc.)   Anyone under the age of 16 must have a parent or legal guardian present to register for a McKinney library card.

If you meet these criteria you can self-register for a library card through our library catalog’s self-registration page.

1. Please choose a home library (the default branch for your requests and holds of library items) and enter your zip code, then your city of residence.
2. On the following page, fill out all requested information.
3. After clicking “submit,” note down the temporary library card number shown.
4. To complete the registration process, please visit the circulation desk of either McKinney Public Library branch and present your temporary number, picture identification, and proof of residence.
